TÇMB Complex Has Been Completed…
TÇMB Complex has opened its doors to the public. The new school is a concrete example of an alternative school format to the generic buildings of the Ministry of Education. The building complex has an ambitious programme and architectural articulation of space making it different from the mainstream school production of Turkey. TÇMB’s purposeful preference (or  requirement?) for the use of fair face concrete dominates the overall space. TÇMB hopes that the architecture of the building will contribute to the formal education of students  throughout their existence in the complex.

TÇMB Vocational High School: beyond the conventions
TÇMB Vocational High School: beyond the conventions
The construction phase of TÇMB has been initiated. The design of the school was the result of a collaboration between DB Architects and TeCe. The school is situated in Küçükbakkalköy which will be the new Finance Centre of Istanbul. The site is also characterized by the dense mass housing projects of TOKI. The school complex is in direct contrast with this urban fabric. Its horizontal mass is almost buried under the ground and most of the spaces are organized below the contours of the topography. The richness of the functions also makes the school quite different from the prototype school formats of the Ministry of Education. TÇMB Vocational High School will house 500 students. But what makes the school different is its programme content. It will house 1000 m2 workshops, laboratories, a library, an auditorium with 400 seats, an indoor sports hall together with open and semi-open exhibition halls. It would not be an exaggaration to say that these facilities will turn the school into a culture centre. The whole strucure of the school is exposed reinforced concrete, emphasizing the identitiy of the instituion behind all this investmentl: TÇMB, The Association of Turkish Cement Producers.
