The idea behind the new laboratory buildings was to make the laboratory units and the spaces between them into a setting integrated with campus life. The pivot of the design is to place the elements of the building programme in such a way as to create shaded courtyards and inner streets between them. The large laboratory units running parallel to the plain to the North and the small laboratory mass placed in front of them at an angle define the group of buildings. The promenade leading from METU Square continues along its axis between the laboratory buildings and produces an inner street in the space between the two rows of buildings. This inner street, which is in the mid plain and continues unbroken, enables you to pass through a shaded place without entering the laboratories. Thus, the inner world of laboratories and campus life come into contact at a particular moment and enter into a visual dialogue.
