Fethiye Bazaar Complex
Fethiye market complex represents a sensitive approch in terms of reinterpreting the authentic character of the existing spatial patterns of the city, The new design reinforces the central location of the market area by adding a mixture of new uses while also keeping the existing ones. Agglomeration of small and mid-size shops strech along the perimeter and the inner spaces of the site. The internal street has various entry points and becomes the main promenade of the overall scheme. A semi-open canopy structure filters direct sunlight, creatin a lively atmosphere and comfortable climatic conditions for its users. A rich mixture of different functions bring a regulated dynamism to the daily life of the market. The scheme proposes a sustainable environment by composing mixed-use activities, incorporated by a climate-sensitive design that will enable a 24 hour life at the very heart of Fethiye. The Project won the first prize in the national architectural competition in 1992.
